running shoes and running aframes

Well, after I totally messed up the Aframe we are back in business and seem to be back on track! Yippie! We are using the Rachel Saunders method.

On other exciting updates, I got new agility shoes, after hearing everyone talk about the Vibram Five Fingers...I had to try some, and have to say... I am loving them-they make me run faster and jump higher, LOL, maybe it is my imagination but they do feel really nice.

Photos by Karen Moureaux:

Breeze and I had a girls day out-we went to a herding trial, then to the California Poppy Preserve where Karen her breeder got some FANTASTIC pictures of Breeze.

We had a great time at the trial and met some super nice people, we saw Bean, and Fleur, and Nina from Contact Point. Bean has changed so much and grown into an adult, Fleur was so sweet and cuddly, tiny and pretty, and Nina looked like a real character-a very sweet dog. We got to see some ducks getting worked which seemed really hard ;-) and the ducks did not seem very co operative, not sure if all ducks are as rough to herd, but they sure were not into being herded today.

I just got this in the mail the other day. Wow, not sure how the photographer got my address, or how they knew that was Breeze, but I was so happy to get the picture, and the Aframe is Breezes color-all her accessories are purple or blue, so how perfect!

Crickets Aframe beginnings!!!

Whoo hoooo, Cricket and I are going to attempt to do a running Aframe, heck why not try it, seems like this would be the perfect time while she is learning. We are doing a 2020 on the dog walk because I am speed challenged, and using the Rachel Saunders box method of teaching the running contacts.

I of course started by teaching Cricket to pounce into the box, then added the box to the end of a jump grid, and then added some handling and my movement and now we are finally ready to put the box on the obstacle.

Cricket did FANTASTIC.

The Criteria:
Cricket should enter the box with all four feet in a pouncelike manner.
Cricket should NOT touch the PVC pipes
I would like her head to be low and her focus forward
After she gets the hang of her striding two hits on the down side of the Aframe will be the criteria, and of course leaping over the apex will help that happen, but for now I would just like her to figure out how to adjust her striding. She actually did two hits in all the reps we did today. I got a little greedy and did not realize how many reps we did ;-(, I was too excited.
I would like to practice a couple of times a week, 6-8 reps MAX.
Cricket has some weaves! In between flooding and the holiday preparations we worked with the 2x2 and got some weaves-some video of our journey.

NEXT STAGE:

Breezie turns FOUR!

Breeze turned 4 today. It seems she is the red haired step child of her litter, but I am proud of her so that is all that matters. We have been down a long road, and not necesssarily the one I had planned-but Breeze is such a fun dog and she is my buddy and partner, love my Breezie... so what more could I ask? I posted the video I did of her first two years. We did some pictures of her and her "sisters" getting their birthday cake today.

BREEZE AND HER BALL-SHE IS A LITTLE BALL OBSESSED-SHE WILL WEAR THE HAT IF SHE GETS THE BALL

Happy FIRST Birthday Cricket!!!

How could a year possibly be up already?
I love the little Cricket, she is fantastic, she loves to play, she loves to just be with me, she is almost always by my side and has been such a fantastic dog-I can not believe I was lucky enough to get such a fantastic puppy!

Almost another year...

I usually post on my other blog so it has been FOREVER since I have updated my journal, and I got tired of looking at the old post when I come to check on my friends entries, soooo time for a new post! LOL.
We are all in shock that Cricket will be a year old in a few weeks and Breeze will be 4 years old in a few weeks, THAT IS CRAZY, how does that happen?

Cricket is such a FANTASTIC little girl....I just love this girl more every day. Such an easy dog to train so far...and so much fun, enough naughtiness to be a fun girl and let me know she is healthy, and to keep me laughing. I LOVE that she is one of those dogs that just really shows me how attached she is to me. I know all my dogs are attached to me but Cricket always has one eye on me, she just burns rubber to get to me as soon as I call her, she is the youngest dog that I have trusted off leash because she is just such a good girl. She sleeps next to me at night and has to lay so she is touching me and when I work on the computer she always has to be laying on my feet, how could anyone not be totally in love with a dog like that?

Cricket has been great-although she can be a bit of a tease with the dogs at home-well some would all her a brat...but they put up with her and she is fantastic with all the other dogs she has met, she loves everyone and thinks she has to say HI to everyone which is a challenge at times. She is not into eating her food which is a pain-although she is very food or toy motivated in training, and she loves to get very dirty-- she is really good at that, but nothing seems to phase her.. sounds, movement under her feet, thunder, lightening, so I can not wait to get some xrays soon to check and see if Cricket's growth plates are closed so we can really start doing more agility. Right now we have been focusing on lots of foundation training and we spent the last month doing the Susan Garrett recall course-which I have to say was a BLAST!.

Some pictures of Cricket today-

CRICKET WHO LOVES CRATE GAMES SO MUCH SHE RUNS IN ANY CRATE SHE CAN FIND, WHOOPS, SO WHAT IF LIZZIE HAS NOT GOT OUT OF THE CAR YET?

LIZZIE AND BREEZE

THE LITTLE LIZARD LIZZIE

nothing much going on....

My Lizzie. She is now 4 and recently something has happened....my little curly haired wild child is QUIET! She is usually the good girl now, the one I always worried about, the one most likely to end up rushing out a gate and getting lost, the one who was always into something and who helped me to memorize the vets phone number, she would get into trouble no one could have imagined, and now....she is just pretty dam good, how did this happen? So how do I handle this new found good girl,.....of course I worry...is she ok?

I really love my Lizzie Lou, my curly coated, split faced buddy.

Cricket is adorable, what can I say, 6 months old and she is looking forward to a very bright future cat and duck herding, what a super little puppy, I really lucked out finding this little pumpkin!

Today I just feel grateful for my bordergirls who are so busy teaching me so many things...how did I get so lucky to have such great dogs? While my dogs are not perfect ;-), I can not believe how PERFECT they are for me!

SILLY CRICKET- 5 1/2 months old

NOOOOOOO, I do NOT counter surf while you are fixing my breakfast...why would you say I do?

Some contact practice, HUMMMMMM, something seems to be wrong........

disclaimer: we are NOT really doing contact practice with full height obstacles, LOL, Cricket was doing her own experimentation-no puppies were harmed for a picture!
